Badge

A term used to refer the make of a car. Although many types of car have much in common, a car's badge can heavily influence a buyer, who may be put off an otherwise very good car simply because of the badge. The badge also has an effect on the car's resale value, as a vehicle that is undesirable when new will remain so in the second-hand market.

When two or more car manufactures pool resources by operating a joint venture or merging their operations, the resulting cars may have very little difference between them other than the badge and some slight styling differences. Examples of this include the joint venture between the PSA Group (Peugeot and Citroen) and Toyota to produce the Citroen C1, Peugeot 107 and Toyota Aygo.
