Front Wheel Drive (FWD)

The most common form of engine/transmission layout used in modern passenger cars, whereby the engine drives the front wheels. As there is more weight over the drive wheels compared to vehicles with rear-wheel drive, front wheel drive provides improved traction in poor road conditions. This layout also produces superior use of interior space than rear-wheel drive as all the drivetrain components are concentrated in the front of the car.
