Miles Per Hour (MPH)

The number of miles a vehicle can travel in 1 hour. All speed limits in the US are set in mph. For example cars may travel at:

• 25–30 mph on residential streets
• 35–45 mph on urban arterial roads
• 50–65 mph on major highways inside cities
• 45–65 mph on rural two-lane roads
• 55–70 mph on rural expressways
• 65–80 mph on rural Interstate highways

Speed policy is determined by each state, allowing certain variances.
