Miles Per Hour (MPH)
The number of miles a vehicle can travel in 1 hour. All speed limits in the US are set in mph. For example cars may travel at:
- 25–30 mph on residential streets
- 35–45 mph on urban arterial roads
- 50–65 mph on major highways inside cities
- 45–65 mph on rural two-lane roads
- 55–70 mph on rural expressways
- 65–80 mph on rural Interstate highways
Speed policy is determined by each state, allowing certain variances.
