An agile vehicle designed primarily for performance driving. A sports car is generally rear-wheel drive, has two seats and two doors, is easily maneuverable, accelerates briskly, brakes positively, steers precisely and handles well. The car's main emphasis is on performance, superior road holding, low weight and power rather than comfort, passenger space, and economy.

Well known specialist marques of classic and contemporary sports car include AC, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Lotus, Maserati, Morgan, Porsche and TVR. However, almost all major car manufacturers also make some form of high performance vehicle, such as the Honda S2000, Ford GT, Nissan 350Z, Chevrolet Corvette, BMW Z8 and Mercedes-Benz SLK55 AMG.
