Requirements for Learner Drivers
Driving age is determined by each state, with the most common age being 16; however, the age for a learners permit can vary from 14 years 3 months to 18 years.
Each state has different rules that new driver's must follow in order to obtain a driver's license. However, the basic requirements for all states are:
Proof of Age and Identity
The majority of states need at least two forms of identity to prove your full name (including your middle name or initial), social security number and date of birth. Documents may include a birth certificate, Social Security card, passport, US Military Identification or US Veterans Universal Access Card.
Proof of Residency
This is required to prove your name and current address. Example may include an apartment lease, mortgage statement, bank statement, school record or utility bill.
Eye-examination. Do not forget to bring your eyeglasses if you wear any. A photograph will be also taken.
Vision
Your eyesight will be checked to see ensure that you meet certain standards. If you need corrective lenses to bring your eyesight up to the required standards, then your license will indicate that you must wear corrective lenses and you must wear them at all times while driving. There is a penalty for driving without the proper corrective lenses.
Fee
A fee must be paid in order to receive a license, which varies from state to state and can be anywhere from $10 to $45.
