Topping Up the Windshield Washer Fluid
You should check the level of your windshield washer fluid every week, particularly during the winter months when the salt on the roads mixes with rain to cause a grimy mist on the windshield.
The screenwash reservoir is typically located in the back or side of the engine compartment close to the windshield, and a second receptacle may also be located in the rear of the vehicle, to supply the rear wipers. Most reservoirs are transparent to allow you to check how much fluid is left without having to open the filler cap. If the level looks low, top up with a good screen washer fluid - this may or may not need to be diluted, depending on the brand.
There are a number of different varieties of screenwash available; some are designed for winter use, preventing the washer fluid from freezing in the reservoir or pipes while others are more suitable for summer use to remove insects and traffic grime. Never add water on its own or dishwashing liquid.
