Vehicle Alarms

A vehicle alarm will detect if anyone gets into your car or truck, or tries to move it while the alarm is armed. Not only will it alert other people if someone does try to steal your vehicle, but it will also usually have a flashing LED to alert the thief to the presence of the alarm, which should put them off trying to steal the vehicle in the first place.

Alarms may detect intrusion in a number of ways, including:

  • Opening the door
  • Impact to the vehicle
  • Tilting of the vehicle
  • Ignition key turning
  • Motion within (or sometimes even close to) the car or truck

Models may have varying amounts of sensors and functions, and may react in different ways to particular situations. For example, some models may simply trigger the lights if it senses an impact to the vehicle, but may then activate the full siren if it is actually broken into. There are models that include a dual-zone sensor, which will emit a warning 'chirp' if anyone peers too closely through the windows.

Top of the range alarms may also incorporate other functions, such as locking the doors automatically as soon as you start the vehicle, and may be programmed so that the key fob can be used to remotely to turn various items on; for example, the headlights as you approach the vehicle, the engine (useful on a frosty morning) or even your heated seats.
