Unemployment Compensation

If you feel you have been fired in violation of federal or state law (for example, discrimination) or without a good reason, you may be able to challenge your firing as wrongful discharge. However, as laws regulating firings vary from state-to-state and a challenge is likely to be time consuming and expensive, it is always a good idea to check your case with an attorney before you take action. Success will also depend on whether you are an 'at will' employee' or a 'for cause' employee.

However, if you do succeed, you can be returned to your job or your employer can be made to pay back wages, fines, and possible punitive damages.
