Laying Carpet

Carpets can add a touch of luxury to any room, as well as reducing noise levels in the rooms below. When choosing a carpet, you should select a grade according to the amount of wear and tear it will receive. While bedroom carpets can be fairly lightweight, hallway and stair carpets need to be very hard-wearing. There are moisture-resistant grades available for kitchens and bathrooms.

New carpets are expensive so fitting them is generally best left to a professional. However, using a remnant to cover a small floor, or cutting down a larger carpet to fit a new space, is well within the scope of the amateur.
