Computers, Audio and Video Equipment
- Move in the original packaging if possible.
- Items should be secured for transit in accordance with the manufacturers' instructions.
Kitchen Appliances
- Stoves, washing machines, refrigerators, freezers and dishwashers should all be disconnected before moving day.
- Refrigerators and freezers should be washed and dried thoroughly to avoid unpleasant odors. If they're going into storage, wedge the doors open to allow air to circulate and tape them in place.
- The drums of washing machines must be secured with the proper brackets to avoid damage.
Books
- Dust books as you take them down from the shelves.
- Stand books of similar sizes on their sides, no higher than to make a cube.
- Wrap each stack in bubble wrap, seal with masking tape, and fit the books on their sides into a tough box.
- Don't force books in.
- Only part-fill large boxes, otherwise they will be too heavy.
- Pack odd spaces with crumpled paper or packing beans.
- Pack light things, such as pillows or comforters, on top.
